The Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) in collaboration with the Crown Prince International Scholarship Program (CPISP) hosted eight CPISP scholars in an intensive 8-week summer internship. On Thursday, 24 August 2023, the interns delivered their final presentations during the Award Ceremony which was attended by Bapco’s executive management and directors of the CPISP program.
The scholars were divided into two groups, each working on a challenge focused on sustainability in line with Bahrain’s commitments in COP26 and COP27. The internship program provided a platform for these exceptional students to develop and hone their communication, leadership, and project management skills.
The first challenge was to reduce energy consumption in buildings with the aim to obtain LEED certification for the Bapco Command Center Building. The second challenge was to reduce the refinery carbon footprint to by 50% in 10 years to meet COP26 commitment.
Over the course of eight weeks, the CPISP scholars engaged in a diverse range of activities, including technical lectures, team building activities, visits to the refinery, workshops on problem-solving skills, a project management course, and a presentation skills workshop.
During the award ceremony, the CPISP scholars delivered insightful recommendations that have the potential to drive positive change within our organization and contribute to Bahrain's broader sustainability goals.
This was followed by an address by Bapco management who commended the initiative and the partnership with CPISP and stressed on the importance of having more of these collaborations in the future.
